India-Cricket: Cricket-India

WE START WRITING PRAYING FOR THE GRACE OF ALL MERCIFUL LORD ALMIGHTY

India

If you solicit an outsider, what 1st comes to his mind on hearing this utterance, you’re expected to get replies such as tradition, culture, poverty, scarcity, spirituality, mysticism, land of snake charmers and blind beliefs and many more…. If you ask a pessimistic Indian about the depiction that flashes on his mind screen on hearing his country’s name, he would enlist terrorism, violence, naxalism, corruption, sleaze, fraud, and communalism and so on… If otherwise you would get a list of optimistic aspects such as integrity, veracity, strong defense, economic and social growth, valued relationships and more…

Wait people… HOLD ON..!!

In the recent days all the above 3 people would not leave out CRICKET from their individual lists. For the reason that, CRICKET IS A RELIGION IN INDIA has seriously no more remained as an overstatement at all. Take for example the communally sensitive areas of Bengaluru, Mumbai, Baroda, Ahmadabad, Hyderabad and Mangalore when the Kapil’s Devils won the maidenWorld Cup in 1983,when Kumble got all 10 pakistani wickets at Feroz Shah Kotla, when The Dada Army reached the WC finals in 2003, when the Young Brigade led by Dhoni won the t20 WC in 2007, when Sachin played a historic innings on Feb 24th 2010 in Gwalior or even as lately as when India brought the Asia Cup back home after 15 long years, people literally came out in the streets, forgot their differences, burst crackers, hugged each other and celebrated with ecstasy and elation!! Cricket fad has conquered the barriers of cast, creed, race and religion and embraced everyone and everybody equally.

Cricket has overcome the level of just a sport and has become a part and parcel of an Indian’s living in general and so we just cannot acknowledge the defeat in this part of our life. Kapil Dev, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dravid, Dhoni and Kumble have become a sensation than being just names of players.

Well just as I said above, people always want our team to win every single match and they are ready to do their best for that sake. And when the team fails to, they become restless and lose their temper.

We’ll see the extent of prayers before the match and the reaction after the match in our subsequent posts…

P.S: We’re just beginners and would love to hear from you. Corrections suggestions and guidelines are most welcome.

Truly yours

Srivatsa-Jitendra
